Clerk's papers re: Methode Massacre, 1826 and Governor Dodge's slaves, 1838 [microform].

Two letters from Lt. Col. Willoughby Morgan, 5th Infantry, Fort Crawford to the Adjutant General, Right Wing, Western Department of the Army, St. Louis, reporting on his efforts to discover the murders of the Methode family near Prairie du Chien; also a 23 p. transcript of testimony by various Winnebago Indians regarding the murder and the Indian prisoners held by Morgan. An "indenture of manumission" signed by Henry Dodge freeing five slaves and a $2,500 bond signed by Dodge and the former slaves and by the Clerk of the District Court subject to forfeit should the former slaves become public charges or fail to obey the laws of the Territory.
